Life Transformation in Very, Very, Small Steps—-STEP THREE: READINESS ASSESSMENT

STEP THREE–READINESS ASSESSMENT

Grab the piece of paper with the ONE THING you want to change.

Have the printout or webpage of your values handy. Write your top values on the piece of paper with the ONE THING.

Now look at your ONE THING and answer these questions:

Will this change fall in line with my values?

Will my values be helpful in making this change?

Will meeting this goal or changing this thing improve my quality of life?

Does the thought making the intended change make me feel happy or relieved?

Do I have specific ideas on how to accomplish this change?

Did you answer “yes” to all these questions? Any “no’s”?

These questions help address your stage of change, which is crucial in determining your readiness to change.

The Stages of Change Model, also known as the Transtheoretical Model(also called the) was developed in the late 1970’s by Prochaska and DiClemente after studying the experience of smokers who were able to quit smoking on their own.

It defines the progression of how we come to recognize our needed areas of change and how we go about making change.

There are five stages of change–precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance.

You should ideally be in the preparation stage (intending to take action) in order to be ready to change.

Did you answer “yes” to the questions above? If so, this means you are most likely in the preparation stage.

PROCEED STEP FOUR.

Did you answer “no” to any of the questions?

If so, go back to your master list from STEP ONE. Pick one that you can answer “yes” to on all of the questions.

You are now ready for STEP FOUR.
